Well, I never expected that my fascination with perennial vegetables would lead me to the London HQ of The Guardian (for overseas readers this is one of the UK’s leading newspapers).
However, out of the blue came an invitation to join their Gardening Editor, Jane Perrone and Martin Crawford from the Agroforestry Research Trust in Devon for a discussion about perennial vegetables to be recorded for a podcast. Jane is a very keen gardener and well informed so it was a great pleasure to be take part in the conversation.
The letters behind my head in this picture are part of the Guardian but backwards so I can remember I was really there!
The link here will take you to the podcast which lasts about half an hour – I hope you enjoy it.

Congrats on Congrats! Hardly a long enough interview though. There were several points you began that were spot on but didn’t develop very well because of change in direction. I saw exactly where you were going with your reply to her ‘what was your epiphany plant’ question. It’s not about any single plant but the supply as a whole. And of course this applies in harvest as well as flavor. A very appropriate response. I’m sorry the point didn’t go on further because the average listener probably didn’t catch the reasoning. I thought it was brilliant. Thanks for sharing the podcast.

thank you so much, I have now listened to it and was very pleased. Jane was very good to talk to as she already knows so much and is so enthusiastic.

Very well done 🙂 That’s an interesting tip from your host about soaking veg in salt water to remove bitterness. Must try it.

Yes, I am going to try it as well. Afterwards we discussed soaking dandelion leaves in it too, which I will try.

Listening to it right now….very good.
You have a good radio voice, no stuttering, umming or erring. Easy to listen to. Well done.

It has been edited! I did forget at one point and say ah ah ah …. and apparently everyone in the studio laughed, but I wasn’t aware of that!
